I was born in Seattle, Washington. I have six brothers and three sisters. I love to read and write. I mostly read fiction, but I do like non-fiction as well, especially memoir and adventure/travel writing. My favorite thing to write is poetry. This link will take you to my I Am From poem. "I Am From" By Sofie Vatsano

I live in Austin with my husband. Our son is a senior at The University of Texas at Austin.

A few years ago my husband and I went on a three-week motorcycle ride through the Desert Southwest. The following link will take you to a movie I made of historic Route 66. Route 66  This summer we took another trip on the motorcycle along the West Coast and through some beautiful landscapes in the deserts of Nevada, Utah, and Arizona.

It is very important to me that our classroom is a place where everyone is safe to learn and grow. I look forward to reading, writing, and learning with you all this school year!

HOLA,

I am Mrs. Laura Seelig and I am excited to be your English, Language Arts Teacher. This will be my 2nd year teaching at Hernandez Middle School and my 2nd year teaching in total. Hernandez is my home and I have loved (will still love) every minute at Hernandez!

I have a Bacholers Degree in English (Literature, Language, and Culture) and I have a Degree in Education (Teaching Secondary English). I am from Las Cruces, New Mexico but I am a proud New Mexican and Texan.

I am the kind of person that will always try to put my best into everything. To me Failure is only an option when I don't try.

ABOUT Your Teacher

Hello!

My name is Alicia Estrada Ontiveros and I’ll be teaching sixth and seventh grade Applied Language Arts this school year.  I graduated from Texas State University and received my Bachelors of Arts in Psychology and Special Education.   I’m certified in Special Education, English for Second Language Learners and Language Arts and Reading 4-8.

I have three children, Brandon, eighteen years old, Angelica, fifteen years old, and Lillianna, thirteen years old.

This is my fifth year at Hernandez Middle School.  I’ve worked at rehabilitation and recreational centers in San Marcos, Texas teaching and counseling children and adults with delayed speech, learning challenges and emotional and physical disabilities.

I’m so excited to have an opportunity to be your child’s teacher to enrich his or her learning environment by exploring writing and word meanings as well as encourage critical thinking in reading. The best way to reach me is through email if you have any questions.

HOWDY!

I am LaToya Morrison and I am so excited to be your instructional coach this year! Teaching is in my DNA as I come from a long line of great educators. I believe in doing what is best for students. I believe in student engagement, and I believe in positive learning environments that are conducive to success! Through my cafe theme, I hope to help you serve delicious lessons that are appetizing for students!

I attended Texas Wesleyan University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Middle School Education with a specialization in English Language Arts/Reading/ESL. I am currently an Aggie grad student at Texas A&M University with a focus on Curriculum and Instruction. Gig Em!

I started my teaching career in Fort Worth ISD at William James Middle School. I taught 6th grade English and Creative Writing, and was named Teacher of the Year in 2008.  I later joined the Young Women's Leadership Academy (YWLA), the 1st all girls' academy in Fort Worth ISD (sister school to the Ann Richards Academy of Austin). I thought it would be great to explore single-gender education and was part of the YWLA Inaugural staff. Over the course of 5 years, I taught Pre-ap 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th grade ENG I. I received my second Teacher of the Year title at the YWLA campus for the 2012-2013 school year.

Throughout my career as an educator, I've learned that student engagement is key to student success. Creativity and innovation have always been the foundation of my teaching, and I aspire to help fellow eductors season their classrooms with success.

As your instructional coach, my goals are to:

  • Give teachers a voice

  • Assist in adding spice to lessons, classroom environment, and procedures

  • Listen to teachers' needs and concerns

  • Curate a bank of practical resources for teacher use

  • .....and most of all to be a resource of support (in any area) for teachers and students!
